Welcome to Harrison.
We are in located in Boone County, in North West Arkansas. There are several towns in this area. Harrison is the county seat of Boone County. It has a population of about 13,000 people. From Harrison, Branson, Mo. is 35 miles to the north. To the south of Harrison is Little Rock, Ar. It is about 130 miles away. Eureka Springs, Ar. is about 45 miles, to the west of Harrison.
The climate here has four distinct seasons. The average winter temperature is 45 degrees. The average summer temperature is 92 degrees. There are usually one or more snowfalls per year. They usually last less that a week before melting. The elevation is 1359 feet above sea level.
The economy is good and has several diverse manufacturing plants. They include die casting, wood products, electronics, trucking, and warehousing. Agriculture, tourism and a retirement population are all part of Harrison's economy.
There are several school systems in Boone county. The Harrison School system has four elementary schools, a middle school, a Junior High, and a Senior High School. There is also North Arkansas College, with about 3,000 students. NAC offers university transfer, technical associate degrees, one year certificates, and adult basic education.
Boone County has two country clubs with golf courses. There are five major lakes ( Bull Shoals, Norfork, Table Rock, Beaver, and Taneycomo ) on which you can fish, boat, and pursure other water sports. City parks provide basketball and tennis courts, a walking trail, playground equipment, and a city swimming pool.
Harrison has many organizations and clubs. There is a county Library and a fully certified Medical Hospital with 700 employees. The airport has the 4th longest runway in the state at 6,160 feet long. The airport has ILS,VOR,NDB, and GPS approaches available.
